July 20, 1996 I went to do some shopping on the left bank in the morning. Bon Marche was having a sale so I succumbed to the typical American tourist purchase, a Cacharel item. A skirt. In fact the word "Soldes" was prominently displayed on just about every shop window I saw. I made an appointment with Nelly's friend Karim last night and met him (and Laura) at a corner of Le Place des Vosges ("The vogue place"). He said we'd recognize him by his HUGE GLASSES. And it worked, we found him. We had a drink/lunch at a cafe in the alley behind a church. Don't ask me which one. Very interesting guy, now working on scripting educational CD-ROM games titles (for Cocktel Vision). Laura and I did some more shopping, came up with a poster for Daniel. Then had dinner in the area right near the Pompidou Centre. After dinner we walked though Les Halles (so that I could see how nasty it is) and attempted to catch a bus that never came. Spoke with an American ex-patriot actress who was also missing the last bus. Laura and Bob started the washing machine before going to sleep and the machine ran for over two hours. I was afraid it was going to burn out the motor and burst into flames. The machine was similar to the one I had in London when I was there for a semester in college. I remember I got it to run once and it tied all my clothes in knots. ...... Copyright © 1996 by Lisa H. Weinberg |
