History UCSF Tae Kwon Do was established by Frank Fasano in the Fall of 1990. Frank was joined by Phil Moore in the Fall of 1993.

Starting with a single beginner class meeting once a week, UCSF Tae Kwon Do has grown to include classes at two sites and three levels (beginning,
intermediate, and advanced), with a total of nine classes per week, including an informal workout on the weekend. In the Fall of 1997, UCSF Tae Kwon Do joined the International Martial Arts Association (IMAA
), an organization which, while based on Tae Kwon Do, also includes elements of Aikido, Kempo, Karate, Kung Fu, and Jujitsu.

The first UCSF Tae Kwon Do student to attain the rank of black belt was Don Kneller, who earned his black belt in June of 1996. Don was followed by
Joe Burgard and Thomas Chong, who earned their black belts in February of 1998. The senior UCSF Tae Kwon Do students are Anita Sil, David Wages, Wendy Gilbert, and Kent Duncan. With Phil Moore's departure in June of 1998, Joe Burgard took over Phil's role as head instructor at Millberry Union.
