Tarascon
Pont-du-Gard

I was outvoted at breakfast so we went to Pont-du-Gard today. I took a ride in the van  for a small uphill section of the route - I decided to do that after I stopped for a  drink and basically fell over. It looks so dumb when you do that; stop then fall after  you've stopped. It's the toe clips.

The first place we visited this morning was King Rene's castle in Tarascon on the  Rhone. The Rhone looks like a real working river (that is, polluted). We picnicked at  the Pont-du-Gard where it was beautiful but hot. Nasty toilets. The road away from the  Pont-du-Gard was shaded by trees that arched over it. Past the McDonalds and  American-style strip mall. Then up through a pine forest (and I do mean UP) which  looked like it would burn at the drop of a match. It's been very hot.

Stopped at the Abby of St. Michel de Frigolet. Monks are still walking around the  grounds. There are cicadas everywhere.
